Pentax O-GPS1 GPS Module

Pentax O-GPS1 GPS Module, your best companion for GPS tracking and photographing of celestial bodies

The O-GPS1 attaches to the camera's hotshoe, allowing the camera to add latitude, longitude, altitude, UTC capture time and direction as image metadata.

This data can be used to place images in mapping software such as Google Earth or as a means of file organization and retrieval.

Pentax O-GPS1

ASTROTRACER for effortless astronomical photography

When mounted on the Pentax KP, K-70, K-S2, 645Z, K-S1, Kr, K30, K50 and K500, K-5 and K5IIs camera body, the O-GPS1 also offers the advanced ASTROTRACER function, which couples the unit with the camera’s SR (Shake Reduction) system for the effortless tracing and photographing of celestial bodies.

The unit calculates the movement of stars, planets, and other bodies using the latitude obtained from GPS data and the camera’s alignment data (horizontal and vertical inclinations and aspect) obtained from its magnetic and acceleration sensors, then shifts the camera’s image sensor in synchronization with the movement of the objects. As the result, stars and other bodies are captured as solid points rather than blurry streaks, even during extended exposures.

It also makes astronomical photography much simpler, as it requires only a tripod and eliminates the need for an additional accessory such as an equatorial telescope.

Pentax's O-GPS1 GPS unit draws power from one AAA-sized battery, and is capable of a cold start in around 40 seconds, while a warm start takes just 5 seconds. It can determine location information at one second intervals, save GPS track information, and has a battery life of around 5-7 hours from a rechargeable NiMH battery. Maximum battery life is around 12 hours with a lithium disposable cell at around 23°C / 73°F.

Simple Navigation to indicate location data to a destination

The O-GPS1 offers a Simple Navigation function, which calculates the direction and distance to a given destination from the current position. The user can either locate destinations using location data stored on recorded images, or register and/or assign them by uploading location data created on a PC.

Simplified weather-resistant construction for use in light rain.
