The Ricoh WG-6 is an all-weather extreme compact camera distinguished by its impressively rugged physical design, incorporation of useful shooting modes, and versatile imaging capabilities.
Its durable exterior construction renders it waterproof to depths of 65.6', shockproof from heights of 2.1m as well as freezeproof, crushproof, dustproof, and resistant to chemical disinfection.
In regard to imaging capabilities, the WG-6 features a 20MP BSI CMOS sensor, which enables high-resolution stills shooting, a sensitivity range from ISO 125-6400, and UHD 4K30 video recording as well as Movie SR+ and Movie SR stabilization modes to help steady video footage.
A 5x optical zoom lens also contributes to this flexibility, and covers a wide-angle to telephoto 28-140mm equivalent focal length range.
Additionally, the WG-6 incorporates a bright 3.0" 1.04m-dot AR-coated LCD monitor, an LED ring light to benefit photographing close-up subjects, and a high-accuracy GPS module to permit embedding location information within your image files.
The WG-6 is designed to withstand a wide variety of conditions, ranging from harsh climates to everyday mishaps:
- Waterproof-rated for use underwater to depths of 65.6' / 20m
- Freezeproof to temperatures as low as 14°F / -10°C
- Shockproof to falls from 6.6' / 2m high
- Crushproof to withstand up to 220 lbf / 100 kgf of pressure
- Dustproof to protect the internal components of the camera
It is Worksite-ready
Equipped with a chassis featuring the uncompromising water-, dust-, cold-, and shock-resistance so essential for construction worksites, the WG-6 also boasts six LED lamps arranged around the lens to provide lighting for macro photography.
Additionally, similar to the G-series of cameras, the WG-6 is chemical resistant, for using ethanol disinfection, bleach disinfection, and chlorine dioxide to suit business, industrial, and construction site use.
20MP CMOS Sensor
Featuring a 20MP BSI CMOS sensor, the WG-6 is capable of recording high-resolution stills and UHD 4K30 video. The sensor's back-illuminated design offers improved clarity, reduced noise, and a sensitivity range from ISO 125-6400 to suit working in low-light conditions.
Ricoh 5x Optical Zoom Lens with LED Ring light
Spanning wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths, the 5x optical zoom lens covers a 28-140mm equivalent range for photographing a wide array of subject types. Surrounding the lens is an LED ring light, which incorporates six individual LEDs, to produce bright and even lighting when photographing close-up subjects. Ten brightness levels are available to adjust the light output, the lighting pattern can be configured, and an enhanced Digital Microscope mode enables close focusing to 0.4".
UHD 4K Video and Movie SR+
UHD 4K30 video recording is supported for high-resolution playback and is benefitted by a Movie SR+ (Shake Reduction) setting, which offers "electronic gimbal" functionality to steady footage taken while moving. Conventional Movie SR can also be used for a more natural, less distorted look, and actively clips the frame to promote steadier shots.
Six LED macro lights surround the lens to produce brighter, more even lighting when working with close-up subjects. An Instant Illumination Enhance function also enables working with higher shutter speeds by momentarily raising the output of the lights while the shutter is released. Also, the LEDs are useful for selfies in Self-Portrait Assist mode or simply as a lighting device in the LED Lighting mode.
Enhanced Digital Microscope mode enables close focusing to 0.4" along with a choice of recording sizes, from 12MP to 2MP in 16:9 aspect ratios, depending on if resolution or magnification is prioritized.
The rugged exterior of the camera has been designed for easy operation in harsh conditions, even when wearing gloves. An assignable ADJ button offers instant access to oft-used camera functions and a top dial permits quick switching between shooting modes. The four-way controller also sports a more ergonomic, raised design with easier-to-press buttons and the rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD has a bright design and AR coating for clear viewing in various lighting conditions. Additionally, date and copyright stamping on files is possible.
Enhanced for greater accuracy, the integrated GPS module corresponds to the latest satellite navigation augmentation system, SBAS. QZSS is also supported for quick activation—approximately 1 minute from shut-down or 3 seconds from standby—and a dedicated GPS button is featured within the four-way controller for recording location information to images by the GPS memory function.

A variable-brightness Ring Light, perfect for movie recording and macro photography.
The lens is surrounded by six variable-brightness, individually-controlled LEDs that can be used in a host of various ways such as illuminate the entire subject, eliminating shadows, or directed to add depth by deepening shadows during macro photography. Up to ten times brighter than the RICOH WG-60’s Macro Light, the Ring Light can also be used to illuminate the subject when lighting is poor.
25 shooting modes
The camera offers settings suited to every subject, including an “Auto Picture” mode that automatically identifies the subject type and chooses the appropriate mode, a Landscape mode for vivid shots of green trees or blue sky, a Surf and Snow mode suited to shots backed by brightly-lit beaches or mountain snows, and a Sports mode for shots of fast-moving subjects
Outdoor View Setting
The brightness of the LCD monitor can readily be adapted to changes in ambient lighting conditions for ease of viewing and an improved shooting experience. Brightness can be increased by up to two steps to make dark areas of the display easier to see in sunlight, or lowered by up to two steps to reduce glare for night photography.
This mode uses white balance optimized for underwater photos, making colors appear more natural by adding reds that tend to get lost in photos taken under water.
Underwater Flash Mode
In this mode, the camera takes two pictures each time the shutter button is pressed, one with the flash off and the other with it on, letting you concentrate on composition without fiddling with the controls.
Digital Microscope Mode
Take spectacular macro photos of details which is too small to be seen by the naked eye. Lighting is provided by six LEDs placed around the lens, ensuring that the camera never casts shadows on your subject.
Smiling Faces Detection
The camera detects portrait subjects and automatically releases the shutter when it spots the subject smiling.
The camera also detects when the subject is blinking and displays the message, “Closed eyes have been detected”
When the camera detects the face of a portrait subject, the macro LEDs around the lens will light to show your location in the frame. The Smile Capture feature can also be activated during selfies.
Small Face Filter
Retouch photos after shooting to reduce the size of faces relative to everything else. Faces can be reduced in size by approximately 5, 7, or 10 percent.
Designed for ease of use in the field, the WG-6 features a rugged aluminum-panel chassis, simple mode selection that requires only rotating the mode dial, and an easy-to-operate vertically-oriented zoom button. The spacious layout of the controls on the back of the camera lets you use them without removing your gloves. In addition, previously-saved exposure settings and the like can be quickly recalled by selecting ADJ. mode with the Movie/ADJ. button.
Create time-lapse movies from still images taken automatically at preset intervals.
Choose interval settings from 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 minutes.
